If one explains death, then the truth can provide a space for the grieving process to begin. Death and grieving are normal, even for a small child. After you have told the truth about death, any belief about afterlife may be introduced -but for now, simplicity may be best for the grieving process.

Editorial Reviews:

"The world of kids is filled with mystery, and death is certainly one of the most painful. Some say that death is much too scary for kids to understand, but Heather has proven that they are wrong. If a kid can understand death, a kid can deal with it. What is Dead is a comprehensive yet clear description of death, written in a calming and natural way. Kids (and adults) will gain much from this explanation. I wish I had written it myself! Rabbi Mel Glazer, D. Min. Author, And God Created Hope" --Mel Glazer

"Heather has accomplished something profound not just for children, but for all of us. She has simply said the truth. And in doing so, she has provided all of us with a valuable stepping stone into wholeness and peacefulness." --Lon & Sandy Golnick, Families By Design

"Throughout my career I have worked with children who have suffered the loss of parents or siblings, or themselves have serious, potentially terminal diseases. There are many books I have read and people I have consulted, in order to help these children deal with what seems impossible situations. This book by Heather Lawrence is far and beyond the most touching, the most sensitive, and the most directly touching book I have encountered. She is able to take the dread and the horror away from the phenomenon of death. This book is so simple, so profound that it should be part of every mental health professional s library." --Alice S. Brill, PhD.
